Although speaking Portuguese is not a formal pre-requisite to study at the UFRJ, all courses are taught in Portuguese. Therefore, learning Portuguese is a wise choice for those students who really desire to make the best of their mobility period at the UFRJ.

The Open to Community Language Course (CLAC), linked to the UFRJ Faculty of Letters, also offers intensive and regular Portuguese for Foreigners courses, in addition to Portuguese for Hispanohablantes and Text Production in Portuguese courses.
